Whenever I try to play the age 3 download, I get this: This application failed to start because d3dx9_25.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Evil or Very Mad

Please give me some feedback and advice.
Postscript: Last time I saw d3dx9_25.dll, it was a trojan horse virus.

I have recently had trouble installing The Sims 2 and followed the many cleaning suggestions I have found on the internet, to no avail.
I finally got desperate enough to try something on my own and it worked!
If you get a code that a file is missing or can't be loaded, don't fret!
Take a brown gum eraser like the one on a pencil and erase the face of your disk thoroughly.
Then take a white hard eraser and do the same thing again, to remove the gum from the first one which removes the smears.
The white eraser also removes light scratches safely.
Wash your disk gently with a dish liquid, dry it off with a linen or other lint free cloth until it is completely dry and looks new again.
